Current
State of Industrial Waste
Growing Expectations for Waste Reduction
and Recycling
To be sure, the thought
of protecting our planet's environment
is common to many people. However, waste
is inevitably produced through the activities
of industry. MIDAC considers the manner
in which that industrial waste is processed
to be of great importance.
In this section, we would like to explain
the current state of industrial waste
and its future.
Conditions
Surrounding Industrial Waste
Over 400 million
tons of industrial waste is discharged every
year in Japan. The enterprises which discharge
this waste are charged with the responsibility
and duty to have them properly processed.
There are several methods in which to dispose
of this waste: "final disposal" representing
landfill, "intermediate treatment"
such as incineration, crushing and neutralization.
Since
there are not enough disposal
facilities and it is difficult
to build new ones, there is an
urgent need to suppress the discharge
of waste and to recycle it into
new resources.
The
Importance of Recycling
Reduction of the amount of industrial
waste produced and reuse of waste
as resources (recycling) are important
subjects commanding attention. From
now on it is vital that they be advanced.
This can only be accomplished when
consumers, businesses and industrial
waste disposal businesses make constant
endeavors. Technology, know-how and
facilities are indispensable in implementing
waste reuse, thermal recycling and
proper disposal.
